Imilac Meteorite Slices from main mass

Imilac was found in 1822 in the Atacama Desert, Atacama, Chile. Numerous masses, large and small, have been removed over the years. The largest individual found weighed 450 pounds. I made a trip to the Imilac strewnfield in late April 2000 and can say first-hand that there is very little material left to be found. Systematic searching with ATV's using high-tech metal detecting has pretty much cleaned out the area. Imilac is classified as a Pallasite.

3147 gram COMPLETE slice cut from the main mass owned by the British Museum. This slice measures a whopping 18 inches by 18 inches at widest points. There are not too many slices this big anywhere in the world. Kind of looks like home plate on a baseball diamond !!! No longer available.

Translucent olivine.

4300 gram COMPLETE slice cut from the main mass owned by the British Museum. This slice measures a whopping 19 inches by 18 3/4 inches at widest points. Polished on both sides. Also shaped like a baseball diamond.

1.4 Kg. individual

169.8 gram "skeleton" individual. Measures 67 mm by 55 mm by 32 mm.

51.3 gram "skeleton" individual. Measures 46 mm by 40 mm by 36 mm.
