What?  Clean up my camp???? NooOOOoooOOooooo! I like it like this. Don't try and change me. I like you, I like me. We're all different. I respect your views that personal areas should be clean, I feel otherwise, it's all good.  Look, it's messy, okay? No big deal. It's not like I'm trying to impress Jim S. or Dave or any other thru-hikers way out here halfway through our JMT trek on the shore of Palisade Lake, for Pete's sake cryin' out loud Virginia, Irene. Besides, this is exactly how John Muir kept his camp. I bet he slept in this same exact spot. How much you wanna bet? So there.

Here's Jim S.,Inc.® looking down at the trail as he hikes, hoping to stub his boot on a priceless meteorite as he makes his way along Lower Palisade Lake and towards Mather Pass. We did two major passes this day. Yep, we sure did. It's okay, be impressed, we were. The lake in the distance (barely in view at this angle) is Upper Palisade Lake. Mather Pass is that little dip to the right of Upper Palisade Lake. It's the low point on the ridge on the right side of the pic. But it's not so little nor so low when you're there. Let me tell you, Mather Pass should be changed to Muthuh Pass. The JMT is filled with passes. It's lousy with them. It's riddled with them for a couple hundred miles. But I love it. Going down the backside, that is.

We had just started our climb towards Mother @#$%@# Pass, I mean Mather Pass. The air was already thin but getting thinner with every step. The lighting wasn't good for taking a photo, but this is a record shot looking back down on the lake we called home the previous night. We camped at the outlet. The peaks to the right rise to 14,000'+. This lake was great fishing for rainbow trout, but lacks a pizzeria.
